10.10.10 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

It’s October again!! Yup. The supposing best month of the year! Triple 10 this year! Must be a very important moment, is it? I think I have reached the point where I stopped counting my age. Stopped believing in Boon Lee’s philosophy that [OLD IS GOLD]… not that I ever believed in it anyway… I mean, how could older ever be better??? Everything worsen when the age increases… higher risk of osteoporosis, hypertension, diabetes, stress, responsibility, burdens… everything.... not to forget, AGING…. Sigh… (okay, let’s all put all those negativity aside…)
Well, birthdays ain’t that bad, I suppose… at least we still have wishes (and gifts!!) to look forward to… yippie… but u know, getting a gift for someone can be somewhat challenging… so, this year, well, I made a list! ^^
SHINYIN’S BIRTHDAY WISH LIST
1.      iphone 4 !!!! (please, please, please…)
2.      a HUGE HUGGABLE TEDDY BEAR!!! (Forever Friends bear would be nice ^^ )
3.      or maybe one of those cute one-eye-yellow-minions from Despicable me – the movie
4.      a white handbag, medium size, big enough to sling over shoulder but small enough for parties
5.      a watch, non-digital, water proof, preferably pink/black
6.      a vacation! (yeah, I need a break) and more holidays!
7.      an external hard disc (running low on disc space)
8.      Wii (that’ll be fun! )
9.      A new hairstyle – I wanna get some curls!
10.  WANG LEE HOM in person (hmm… still having fantasy… haha!)
11.  a small but warm birthday bash with close family&friends, maybe?
12.  a hospital transfer back to Seremban after housemanship
13.  SURPRISE!!
14.  SURPRISE!!!!
15.  SURPRISE!!!!!
16.  I know, I just loved surprises!! ^^
17. PURE HONESTY and some answers
18. To find a better meaning to life
19.  And of course, HAPPINESS, always… to the people around me whom I care… (and myself too)
Not an easy list, ei? I guess nobody will get me those gift… need to start saving… those I’m like totally broke for now… so,  sigh… oh well, no harm wishing….
Happy Birthday to me~

oh boy, why is it so darn hard to feel happy?

my eyes are painful,
somewhat red from all the rubbing,
somewhat watery from all the tearing...

my heart is retching,
aching with each breathe i take,
hurting with every thoughts of you...

why?
when you promised happiness,
you gave pain instead?
why?
when you said you will be there,
you were not?
why?
when you made promises,
you broke them one by one?

is it true?
that one need to walk down the path,
the path covered with shattered glass,
and let their feet bleed,
with every step,
sharp pain shooting up the spine,
yet, thou shall keep walking,
to reach the destination of happiness...

what if you thought you have found happiness,
and later found out,
that it was all a white lie...
a fairytale that never exist,
a pacifier for little kids...

i wondered how could you have let it be,
how could you have let it go,
perhaps, somethings weren't as important,
perhaps sweet words, were only words...

and i,
i only deserved to be in this dark space...

perhaps what they predicted was right
everyone was given a certain amount of happiness
and i am starting to reach the end of my quota...
the tip of the toothpaste tube....

oh boy, why is it so darn hard to feel happy?

Views on Malaysia Unity by Sharyn Lisa Shufiyan (Tunku Abdul Rahman’s great granddaughther)

Views on Malaysia Unity by Sharyn Lisa Shufiyan (Tunku Abdul Rahman’s great granddaughther)

I came across this interesting article and would like to share it with you... written by Tunku Abdul Rahman’s great granddaughter Sharyn Lisa Shufiyan, 24, Conservationist – Conservationists advocate for the protection of all the species in an ecosystem with a strong focus on the natural environment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Both my parents are Malay. My mum’s heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese.

I’m happy that I don’t have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up “Are you Chinese or Malay”

Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer “Malay” but now I’m trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead.

There’s this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Jud gement Day because I don’t have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I’m older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn’t define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a Muslim name. You can be named Rashid or Ali and still be a Christian.

I’e heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don’t need to be told to be united. We’ve come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united. Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders.

For the concept to succeed, I think the government should stop with the race politics. It’s tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about ‘us ‘ and ‘them’ and focus on ‘we’, ‘our’ and ‘Malaysians’.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, “I don’t feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysiais my home, and I don’t feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there.

I know some baby Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I’m a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am Bumiputra, why can’t they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

I think the main reason why we still can’t achieve total unity is because of this ‘Malay rights’ concept. I’d rather ‘Malay rights’ be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this Bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

For my merdeka wish, I’d like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary dem o cracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of Malaysia truly Asia. Malaysians to lead – whatever their ethnic background.

Only ONE NATIONALITY MALAYSIAN.
No Malays, No Chinese, No Indians – ONLY MALAYSIANS…….

Choose whatever religion one is comfortable with.

MERDEKA
MERDEKA
MERDEKA

Let’s not forget our true value and spirit when we celebrate our Independence.

Merdeka!

Wives purchase over 'E-Bay' - IS THIS LOVE?

Another b/o Nguyet … admitted to the ward while I was on-call the other day…

There she was, this small petite lady, carrying her yellow baby in her arms. She had small narrow eyes, eyes of olive shape, shallow as if no secrets beneath, often looking in a downward gaze. Her face was round, nose rather flat, small button-like mouth, skin rather dark, like bark of a tree. She was not exceptionally pretty or striking in any way. I never saw the smile, just her innocent, the child-like look. Oh, I wonder how young she must be.

Next to her was her mother-in-law, huge and tall, with an over-nourished belly. She was trying to be a pseudotranslator. Pseudo, as in, she was trying to translate her daughter-in-law limited Chinese vocabulary to Malay Language. And no, she does not speak a word of her daughter-in-law’s mother tongue.

‘She cannot speak Malay Language or much Chinese Language’ she explained, while I was trying to get a more detailed family history of blood disorders and other past medical history. A challenging patient with such language barrier, I thought.

‘My daughter-in-law is a Vietnamist’ the old lady added. Without further prompting, she said, ‘Nowadays, Chinese Ladies very picky, hard to find Chinese wife’ she ventilated.

I smiled back, not knowing how to reply her. So, I did what I knew best – listen.

‘I brought her from Vietnam.’ (more like bought)…
‘Good girl, give me a beautiful grandson, listens to her husband, helps with the household chores’
Indeed, I was so shocked to here that.

What happened to Women’s rights?
What happened to humanity rights?

WHAT HAPPENED TO LOVE???

Then I realized, it takes two to tango. He wanted a wife, a child, a family. And she, she wanted a man to take care of her. The reasons were obvious, straight forward. So, they more or less, fulfilled each other wishes. (and needs)

And so, perhaps we were moving backwards. Further than the days of matchmaking. Further than the days of fixed marriages.
–the days where wives were brought on the black market, women becomes a commodity.

In today's modern world, we even have 'e-mail order brides'.
YES, you heard it right! Wives can be obtained over the internet, like purchasing a product from e-bay.

How could we have gone back to that extend?

How could one be degraded to such extend?

Perhaps, what she said were partially true.

Chinese girls are picky.

The father of the yellow child was lorry driver, a not very good looking lorry driver, not highly educated, earning just enough to live, sometimes, even struggling to make end meets, unable to afford luxury items.

Would you be with him if you were a girl?

With the ideology of ‘You MUST marry/date a good man’ instilled in those Chinese girls from young.

Perhaps that was what molded them to what they were today.

It is portrayed in old Chinese Tales and even in the latest TVB series.
It was said, you cannot choose your parents, but you can choose your spouse.
Drama, drama, drama…

So, what makes a good man?
A man who is rich?
A degree-holder?
A white-collar profession?
A man who owns a car and a house?

It is funny, the scale they use.

And I wonder, what happened to love?

It puzzles me a lot. I mean if I were a man, how could I live with a girl whom we don’t share same interest, and worst, can hardly communicate with each other…

Could we even understand each other?

How could they even have a child together and later spend the rest of their lives together?

Does Love grows with time???

I know, I live in a fairytale.

I thought that love and happiness is the core, and everything else is secondary.

Maybe i was wrong...

But with the increasing number of b/o Nyuget, b/o Thai Tam Thee, b/o ....etc…. (foreigner)… mushrooming in our nursery ward, I guess, sometimes, we have to face the harsh reality.

p/s: anyway, about the child, he had jaundice with a TSB (Total Serum Bilirubin) of 17.4. After 2 days of phototherapy, the TSB level reduces to acceptable values and the child was discharged well ^^

you might find this news from the star interesting

some news from the star:

With the rising number of women in Malaysia choosing to marry late or not at all, some Malaysian men are turning to our northern neighbour for life partners.

THERE is nothing like the sensuous feel of a Vietnamese woman.”

“Vietnamese women are slim and gentle,”

“They smell very nice”

and “They never divorce.”

Yet, a mere click on the Internet shows that it is easy to be hooked up with a Vietnamese bride of your choice

“When the selection is made, we fly the girl over and they can have a trial meeting at the agency or a hotel room, and if both agree, they can be married off. Fees range from RM16,000 to RM30,000, depending on what the deal includes; some of our clients want us to do the paper work as well,”

The girls were paid for on the spot and taken away by the men as their wives, and “the prettier and sexier the girl, the higher the price she fetched”, he says.

Cupid Marriage Counselling Centre owner Kh’ng Kek Kon said her customers could also request for a virginity test if they were looking for virgin brides.

The customers get to view the candidates and communicate with the agencies via e-mail. Once a selection is made, the woman is flown over for a trial meeting.

Some professionals and businessmen are turning to matchmaking agencies for foreign brides because they are too busy with work and want to avoid the hassle of courtship.Professionals make up about 20% of bachelors who seek foreign brides, according to a matchmaking agency in Penang specalising in foreign brides from Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and China.

A housewife from Kuala Lumpur admitted she was worried as her only son, who is 34, is still single. “He has postgraduate qualifications. He worked as an engineer for four years but is now running our family business.

“I hope I can get the girl to come and stay in my house for a week so I can see if she’s suitable. I can send her for English classes and driving lesson in future,” she said.

Lia Sidhu of Cupid’s Touch says most Malaysian women are still single because they work so hard that they don’t meet anyone outside of work. And they believe that it is unprofessional to form a relationship with a colleague or a client.

of love

Today, i heard a story which was not a story of falling...
of living in the dark end of winter turmoil..
instead, it was a love story..
of a couple who did not live happily ever after...
but they live, loving each other..
